Magazine Front Page Progression

I started by taking my original photo and adding flames to his hands and experimenting with light to give the warm glow of the fire. Flames are a code of asscociated with the metal genre.
I then removed the branded logo on the tshirt and gave my model tattoos and a lip ring and ear stretcher as these are typical of the genre. I then placed him on a white background. I also edited the flames as the were rather poorly edited and gave them more body and mass.
I experimented with what to have a background. I thought the shattered glass look effect would bring across the concept of power that I wanted the model to have. I also added a graphic of a skull onto the blank tshirt.

I also experimented with another font before resorting back to the previous font
I then tried to make the font white on a black splattered effect background
Whilst I had chopsen my font I still wanted to experiment with how to present my font. This was my first attempt. I chose toput the word metal inside the I letter of the word informer.
However I was not convinced and so experimented with gradients on my font and was as giving it an embossed effect to make it stand out.

I then carried on experimenting with fonts using the warp tool in photoshop to create the effect of the word coming out of a megaphone

I liked the what I had done with the title but chose to flip itand add lightning bolt graphics. I then added a crack marble background and faded it. I then started experimenting with fonts for my headlines

I decided to change the contrast of the background to make the cracks in the marble bolder and more defined

I wanted to add other images onto the front cover and so used one of the images I had taken at one of the live events I visited that had a similar colour scheme to my magazine. I also changed the font because whilst I like the font I designed I felt it took up too much space.

I added a barcode to the front cover as well as text surrounding the modelputting black backgrounds on certain text inorder to make it stand out. I alternated between red and black font colours and added a solid colour grahic of a lightning bolt

I added lines to seperate my articles as well as fill in white space and added a summary of the magazine above the magazine title.

I then added an issue number and price as well as another graphic as I felt one grpahic was rather pointless and made the graphic seem isolated. I duplicated the lightning bolt changing its colour and putting it behind the lightning bolt to give it a red edge.

Photoshoot

I took photos of my model on a variety of locations. In the photos I used for my double page spread I placed the model at the side of the shot so that I could use the rest of the shot to put my article in. The Main cover images I chose I wanted to capture the agressive nature of the genre of music and the the agressive nature of the article as they take over the metal scene. I also attened live music events and took photos which I plan to use on my contents page. I have used Flickr to upload these.

Planning of Colour Scheme and Layout

I decided from my research that surrounding the model in text was typical of not only music magazines but more specifically emtal magazines. I also found from my research. Magazines that are predominantly white use red and black text as they constrast and compliment the main image making them more appealing and eye catching to the reader. I will apply this to my own magazine.

Font Research

I looked at a variety of fonts common in the Rock and Metal genre of magazine, Focusing on clear bold fonts often with doistorted or corrosive textured effects. Its connotates the often destructive nature of the music shown in the magazine.
In the end I chose the the bottom most font I feel it has more character and shares the same look as the want I want for my magazine and that my audience will relate to.
