How did you attract/address your audience?

How did you attract and adress your audience

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My magazine would be distributed by Team Rock or Bauer Media as they are responsible for the publishing of the main magazines I studied and analysed during my research these being MetalHanmmer and Kerrang. They may chose to publish my magazine in a similar style to Kerrang which would be to a younger audience as they ultimately have control at how and who it is distributed to. Also the TeamRock which produces predominantly guitar orientated magazines focusing solely on Guitars in america to and a more wide spread audience and so may be able to use that for mine to increase sales.

Magazine Double Page Spread Progression

I decided to edit the photo so that it looked like the model was controlling lightning again looking powerful, I also put a grey box which I made slightly transparent where I was planning to put my article
This is the double page spread image I have chosen. I wanted to get across the image of power and so showed him creating a ball of energy. I also edited out the background to make it cleaner.

However I didnt like the box and so edited it out and just out the article ontop of the image. I also added the article title using the same font and a quote from the article to catch the readers eye.
However I didnt like the lightning or the grass as it didnt go with my over all style. So I removed the grass and background completely and made the background white to match my front cover. I also then replaced the lightning with fire and had it curve around my article so that the text became an element of the image
I felt the white was too plain so added a white brick wall background and a concrete floor as well as a shadow to give the image depth.

I added a lighting effect to the model as it had a blueish tinge to show the warmth of light

Magazine Front Page Progression

I started by taking my original photo and adding flames to his hands and experimenting with light to give the warm glow of the fire. Flames are a code of asscociated with the metal genre.
I then removed the branded logo on the tshirt and gave my model tattoos and a lip ring and ear stretcher as these are typical of the genre. I then placed him on a white background. I also edited the flames as the were rather poorly edited and gave them more body and mass.
I experimented with what to have a background. I thought the shattered glass look effect would bring across the concept of power that I wanted the model to have. I also added a graphic of a skull onto the blank tshirt.

I also experimented with another font before resorting back to the previous font
I then tried to make the font white on a black splattered effect background
Whilst I had chopsen my font I still wanted to experiment with how to present my font. This was my first attempt. I chose toput the word metal inside the I letter of the word informer.
However I was not convinced and so experimented with gradients on my font and was as giving it an embossed effect to make it stand out.

I then carried on experimenting with fonts using the warp tool in photoshop to create the effect of the word coming out of a megaphone

I liked the what I had done with the title but chose to flip itand add lightning bolt graphics. I then added a crack marble background and faded it. I then started experimenting with fonts for my headlines

I decided to change the contrast of the background to make the cracks in the marble bolder and more defined

I wanted to add other images onto the front cover and so used one of the images I had taken at one of the live events I visited that had a similar colour scheme to my magazine. I also changed the font because whilst I like the font I designed I felt it took up too much space.

I added a barcode to the front cover as well as text surrounding the modelputting black backgrounds on certain text inorder to make it stand out. I alternated between red and black font colours and added a solid colour grahic of a lightning bolt

I added lines to seperate my articles as well as fill in white space and added a summary of the magazine above the magazine title.

I then added an issue number and price as well as another graphic as I felt one grpahic was rather pointless and made the graphic seem isolated. I duplicated the lightning bolt changing its colour and putting it behind the lightning bolt to give it a red edge.

Photoshoot

Photoshoot

I took photos of my model on a variety of locations. In the photos I used for my double page spread I placed the model at the side of the shot so that I could use the rest of the shot to put my article in. The Main cover images I chose I wanted to capture the agressive nature of the genre of music and the the agressive nature of the article as they take over the metal scene. I also attened live music events and took photos which I plan to use on my contents page. I have used Flickr to upload these.

Planning of Colour Scheme and Layout

I decided from my research that surrounding the model in text was typical of not only music magazines but more specifically emtal magazines. I also found from my research. Magazines that are predominantly white use red and black text as they constrast and compliment the main image making them more appealing and eye catching to the reader. I will apply this to my own magazine.

Font Research

I looked at a variety of fonts common in the Rock and Metal genre of magazine, Focusing on clear bold fonts often with doistorted or corrosive textured effects. Its connotates the often destructive nature of the music shown in the magazine.
In the end I chose the the bottom most font I feel it has more character and shares the same look as the want I want for my magazine and that my audience will relate to.

Photoshoot Planning Sheet

Photoshoot Title:
Metal Informer Photoshoot

Photoshoot Concept:
My article is based on a new upcoming band that are becoming very popular and know world wide with the tag line “taking over the world” so I’m planning on having my model holding a spherical object which I can then photo shop an image of the world onto

Aims:
I want to take a wide range of photos with a wide range of props for my double page spread and front cover

Date & Timings:
The Photos will be taken between 2 and 3oclock and the weather is supposed to be dry and sunny for good lighting on the 8th of January.

Location:
The photos will be taken on the school site outside and inside the sixth form

Props:
I need a spherical object like a ball for my model to hold as well as a bass guitar

Models:
I only have one model in my photoshoot

Team:
I had a stylist who told my model what to wear, I had someone who was in charge of finding the props and someone in charge of lighting

Equipment & Preparation:
I ensured that all the equipment was ready, the batteries were charged, I used a tripod to make sure my photos were level but also used free hand. I used natural lighting but if I feel the photos need more light I can edit that
Desired Shots:
I am planning to have a selection of photos some of torso and head shots where the model is holding a ball with an aggressive expression against a blank background. I also want photos with my model holding a guitar leaning against a wall I want straight on shot photos and photos where the camera is parallel to the fret board.

Readers Profile

This readership profile demonstrates who the readers generally are. The Median age of the readers in this readership profile is 19, which is similar to the Teenage/Yound Adult audience I'm trying to attain. 60% of the readers are male, which tells me that the audience that would probably be male, I am looking to have a similar percentage and due to this should relate my content around that. According to the readership profile, the readers of Kerrang! are regular consumers of video games, fashion and media, which tells me that the readers of Kerrang! have a strong intrest in general entertainment and media which again I should apply to my own magazine.

Article First Draft

Who are Inside the Fire? Only the hottest new Metalcore band of 2014. The London are became famous and fast, with their self-titled EP becoming the fastest selling debut album of the year beating the X-factor winner’s album and many others that had much more media attention than them. “It was all thanks to the fans, we posted the entire EP on our Facebook page and the internet stuck there foot in the door ya know” after the initial posting on the bands page with only 5000 followers it went viral being played on the biggest rock radio stations in the UK including our very own Metal Informant. With a global tour scheduled for Autumn of 2014 the lads from London don’t seem scared “its just like what we normally do but with more people” the tour will start off in October and finish in February after visiting America, Europe, Australia and South America. This 'Global Takeover' as it has been called is looking to sell out as soon as the tickets go on sale following on from the excitement over the EP. The band were set to play at download festival on the Pepsi Max Third Stage but due to this new development may well be getting moved to the Jim Marshall Main Stage. After their tour finishing in February 2015 they are set to go sit down and record an album with their newly signed record label Roadrunner Records, Roadrunner is famous for their metalcore bands such as Trivium and Killswitch Engage and Im sure they will help Inside the Fire succeed in their global takeover. Inside the Fire's single 'we will burn' is still currently 4 weeks on from their EP release still Number one on the iTunes Metal Charts. This band has already had a lot of success and I imagine this is only the beginning.
